Former Belize PM Cleared Of Theft

CaribWorldNews, BELMOPAN, Belize, Weds. June 10, 2009: Former Belize Prime Minister, Said Musa, has been cleared of pilfering charges.

Musa was accused of stealing US$10 million in 2007 and ordered by Magistrate Earl Jones to face charges.

But Chief Justice Dr. Abdulai Conteh on Monday ruled that Magistrate Jones erred in his decision. Conteh said the evidence was insufficient to commit Musa, like his foreign minister to a trial.

Musa has maintained his innocence and this week said he feels vindicated.

Director of Public Prosecutions Sheryl-Lynn Branker-Taitt, says her office will appeal.
