Jamaica Swine Flu Rate Jumps Again

CaribWorldNews, KINGSTON, Jamaica, Fri. June 12, 2009: Jamaica`s swine flu rate has again jumped, this time to 11.

The Jamaica Ministry of Health’s surveillance system said yesterday it detected another confirmed case of Influenza A (H1N1) in the island on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Confirmatory testing was done at the National Influenza Centre, University of the West Indies.

This case is a resident of New York who travelled to Jamaica. The Minister said the person is, however, recovering satisfactorily.

The Jamaica count adds to the growth in swine flu cases across the region. Barbados reported its third case this week while in the Dominican Republic, the number is put at over 91. Across the region, the total is fast approaching 120.
