CaribWorldNews, GEORGETOWN, Cayman, Fri. May 22, 2009: Former Leader of Government Business, McKeeva Bush, whose party lost the 2005 election, has returned to power in the Cayman Islands.
Bush`s United Democratic Party on Thursday night proved the victor in the 2009 general election in the British dependent territory. The UPD won nine of the 15 seats in Wednesday’s vote.
Bush used the win to appeal for national unity after a fiercely fought campaign. The People’s Progressive Movement took five with the other won by an independent who’s backing the new government.
However, in the capital city of GeorgeTown, PPM Leader Kurt Tibbetts also retained his seat, along with Alden McLaughlin.
The official swearing of elected officials is scheduled for May 27.
