Trinidad-Born Founder Of Famous D.C. Restaurant Dead

CaribWorldNews, WASHINGTON, D.C., Fri. Oct. 9, 2009: The Trinidad-born owner of the famous D.C. restaurant, Ben`s Chili Bowl, is dead.

Ben Ali, founder of the U Street restaurant died Wednesday evening. He was 82.

Ali opened Ben`s Chili Bowl with his wife, Virginia, in 1958 after he migrated from Trinidad. The spot has seen its share of celebrities including comedian Bill Cosby and his wife, and even President Obama

The restaurant is now run by Ali`s sons, Kamal and Nizam.

In a statement on the restaurant`s Web site, the family said they `want to thank Ben Ali for leading this legacy and allowing us to follow in his dream. We miss you and love you.`
